Meditation is a very personal & therefore “individual” practice.
Others may guide us but at the end of the day only we know what “feels” right & also what practice leads us to that space of stillness & silence.
Meditation is a state of presence & focus. We do not necessarily have to be cross legged on a floor, which is a natural presumption when speaking of meditation. We can be in a meditative state (present & focused) as we place each foot on the pavement as we walk, doing our daily chores, eating, showering, while we write, paint, draw….
Some activities also allow this state of mind: yoga, rock climbing, running, wind surfing.. to name a few. Presence & focus are required & therefore all sounds, all thoughts are dissolved. There is only the here & now.
We have been blessed with a bodily function that we need to survive, that we do naturally without thought – breathing. The breath of life.
To simply watch the breath is an old age form of meditation. As thoughts come, we allow them to pass by returning our awareness to the breath. Over practice these moments last longer & with the rhythm of our breath we find our sacred space of peace.
There are no wrongs or rights, no should or shouldn’t. No rules … how liberating *smile*
I have been meditating daily for almost seven years. There are days when guidance is clear, that space of stillness reveals itself with delicious ease. And there are days when I will sit & there is nothing. This is just the way. It is to simply be in a place of surrender & acceptance. It is not at these times to give up.
In the beginning I found it helpful to listen to guided meditation CDs. After a time I felt confident enough to focus on a word … calm, love, peace, abundance or an object … the sun, a tree, the world.
I then naturally began to tune out the sounds of the external world & with the momentum of the breath be greeted by my internal “master of peace.”
I found that I was more “awake” in my daily living, such as walking, eating… these provided new experience of meditation.. The world looked new. I was not the past or the future… I became present.
There are other tools besides guided meditation CDs which can assist us..
An altar may sound a bit far fetched, yet it is a simply a place in your home where you choose to meditate. A place that the mind, body & spirit begins to instantly recognise & honour as a sacred space of time that you are dedicating to you.
Candles & incense create a mood. … The candle lit in dedication, the incense to calm you as you breathe in its perfume.
Crystals & music are also wonderful healing & meditative tools.
Mediation groups are a way of being with “like hearted” people, sharing experiences, receiving support & guidance. Simply sitting in the presence of others.
The thing is not to try too hard, what we force or push against we only repel. If thoughts get in the way, that is ok. Just allow them to empty, thank the thoughts & let them pass … again if you fight against them they will only persist.
It takes practice, patience, commitment & acceptance I believe for us to move forward in meditation. For so long we have allowed our minds to chatter away & now we are choosing to take control, to choose our moments of thoughts & our moments of stillness. Oh, what bliss.
Yet just as we honour a toddler with love & patience as he takes his first steps, our first glorious steps into meditation require that same level of love & patience.
Be kind to yourself.

Every challenge in life is a gift of healing. Your choice is to move through the challenge to a new you or stay in the chaos.
Each journey is a sacred path, our experiences individual & unique. Yet it need not be a lonely journey. We can share our truth & wisdom & in doing so support & empower each other. These three mediations are moments of healing & release that I have been blessed to receive through the Angels. That gift is not for me to keep but to share in faith that you too may discover & reach new levels of self love & freedom.
With the support of Mother Nature beneath you, the radiant sun warming your skin, your muscles …. The breath…. Dainty figures begin to surround you in their colours of healing & joy. This is your time to be still, bringing healing, balance & renewed energy to your body & mind.
